 | An open access journal is defined as one that is academic, digital, and peer-reviewed, which readers can access free of charge and where author copyright is reserved.
Open access is the alternative to subscription or paid access. Its principle advantage is that the journal’s content is available to readers everywhere in the world and readers do not need to be affiliated to specific academic libraries. It has been demonstrated that open access does not have a negative effect on the journal's academic quality and furthermore increases its visibility as well as the impact of the articles it publishes.
